The Sixth Of Our Frequently Asked Questions
Take a look below at the sixth of our frequently asked questions regarding online driver assessments.
Q. Why has my employer asked me to complete an on line
driver assessment?
A. Your employer has a corporate and legal responsibility
under the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974 to ensure (so far as is
reasonably practical), the health and safety of all employees at work. Your
employer has chosen to assess your exposure to risk and identify appropriate and
relevant training in order to safeguard both you and the public at large.

The Fourth Of Our Frequently Asked Questions And Answers
Q. Why does MY
employer not simply visually check my driving licence?
A. A check of a person’s
physical driving licence relies on the information provided, which may be out of date as opposed
to being in “real time”. Employers need to be confident they hold the most up
to date licence information at the time of checking, which is only available
from the DVLA.

The Third Of Our Frequently Asked Questions
Q. Why do
I have to check licences with the DVLA, why can’t I just check the paper copy?
A. The check
of a person’s driving licence relies on the quality of the information
provided, which may not be up to date, rather than “real time” information. Employers
need to be confident they hold the most up to date licence information at the
time of checking, which is only available from the DVLA. To find out more about our driver licence checking services please visit us online at http://www.rvmfleetservices.co.uk/licence-checking/

The Second Of Our Frequently Asked Questions
Q. I can’t
convince my other board members to invest in this area? What can I do to get
them on board?
A. Board members
have to consider broader aspects of their company’s activities and that results
in a process of prioritisation. Clearly all board members need to be convinced
of the value aspect of any new Proposal. As a result, it may be best to
demonstrate how accident/risk management not only cuts operations and insurance
costs also ticks the compliance box, safeguarding them from potential Corporate
Manslaughter action. There are many case studies proving this fact- please feel
free to contact us on 0113 2248898 to help with this issue.

The relationship between Safety Culture, Driver Attitude and Accident Liability
Our next few posts are going to discuss the relationship between
safety culture, driver attitude and accident liability. There is much talk in
the fleet press and from ‘risk management’ suppliers about how
important it is to do licence checks
and assess drivers and do some form of driver
training. As elements of RVM’s Full Circle product, we recognise these
techniques can contribute towards identifying and thereby setting a course to reduce risk but, as evidence shows,
these initiatives will fail to do anything other than tick some compliance
boxes unless a key ingredient is present. This key ingredient is culture change.
We will talk more about this key ingredient next week, so please continue to
follow our blog posts to find out more!
